Fair Haven NJ Stroll with Kids

fair haven nj neighborhood stroll- Documentary Photography

I’ve been craving a more natural, candid and fun way to document both my own children and my clients. So, in the spirit of my Memory Making Series, I took my kids to Fair Haven for a stroll around its beautiful, brick-lined streets. It’s such a charming town, packed with fun shops and eateries to stop into. Our first stop was Booskerdoo for coffee, chocolate milk, and snacks. It's one of my favorite spots to escape my home office and get some work done and the kids love it for the yummy pastries and kid-friendly drinks. While we didn't do it this time, I highly recommend grabbing one of the board games tucked away on the shelf near checkout to play with your kids. It’s a wonderful way to create a genuine connection and add a fun, natural element to your portraits. (Though, my daughter ended up picking up a newspaper and reading it instead, which I found absolutely adorable!)

I am only sharing photos that do not show my children’s full faces to protect their privacy but I assure you, I will capture your children’s faces for their portraits.

From Booskerdoo, we headed west on River Road. Along the way, we turned our walk into a little adventure, admiring the flowers, American flags, and tiny treasures we stumbled upon including this cute bicycle outside Third & Lenox and the nearby dog bowl. I absolutely love a town that is both family and dog friendly; you’ll notice dog bowls placed outside many of the shops here.

My son took a break right outside River Road Books which was the perfect shady resting place. When the kids spotted the Richard Scarry display in the window they decided we HAD to head in.

After using their restroom and purchasing a couple books and a notebook, we headed for the pier. Stopping to smell the flowers, read a new book and notice the architecture and beauty of the historic and modern homes.

We made it to the pier with just a few minutes to explore before heading back home for lunch. There is a small beach area great for shell and rock hunting.

Our walk back to the car included more stops to appreciate the beauty and charm of this enchanting town. No flowers or apples were picked throughout this trip. However, my coffee was hijacked twice.

All in all it was a fun little late morning trip of exploration and fresh air. I have visions of creating more of these documentary style, activity based sessions for families throughout this Summer and beyond. So much magic happens when kids are free to be.
